Confidentiality, Stigmatization, and Self-Advocating Difficulties
Session Six
Confidentiality is necessary in the school in regard to 504 or IEP information. It is important to insist upon this, as otherwise your child may be called out in front of the class or others and be stigmatized. Self-advocacy (a student advocating for himself or herself) is difficult enough, and being identified as a student with needs in front of others and stigmatized does not make it any easier. There are laws to back this up as well.
